Unity Technologies Opens Shanghai Office with New Strategic Partnership Engagements

Unity Technologies, provider of the Unity multi-platform engine and development tools, demonstrated their commitment to the Chinese development community in front of over 800 attendees during the Unity Asia Bootcamp in Beijing by announcing a new office in Shanghai and business agreements with Chinese technology companies China Cache and Qihoo 360.

The opening of the Shanghai office represents the first of a series of strategic commitments from Unity Technologies to support the fast-growing number of Chinese developers adopting the Unity development platform. Along with being tasked with growing Unity's mindshare in the world's most populous nation, Unity Technologies China will also investigate specific needs of the area to provide excellent and highly targeted support.

"We've been aggressively expanding Unity into Asia for over a year and opening offices in Shanghai is a big move for us to meet high demand in China," said David Helgason, CEO of Unity Technologies. "Partnerships with key Chinese internet firms, agreements with local software resellers, and opening of the China office are all part of a dedication to support the Chinese development community as intensely as we've supported it in the west."

Demonstrating this dedication, Unity Technologies also revealed strategic partnerships with local Chinese companies to ensure the successful distribution of the Unity Web Player and through it console quality web games. Content delivery network specialists China Cache will ready 12 thousand servers to satisfy the demand for the Unity Web Player to Chinese online communities. And Qihoo 360, the largest security software company in China, will distribute the Unity Web Player to over 240 million 360 Safe Browser users.

Leading the Shanghai office will be Country Manager Allen Foo, a software industry veteran who, before joining Unity Technologies, spent over a decade at Microsoft as a Director of Business Development and Management in the Asia Pacific region with several years specifically in China.

"We're very pleased to make these announcements face to face with such an enthusiastic group of local developers during the Beijing stop on the Unity Asia Bootcamp Tour," said Allen. "Bringing a part of the Unity development team to Beijing to meet with the local development community is invaluable for our efforts to continuously improve Unity for the Chinese market."

The opening of the Shanghai office makes China the ninth country with a Unity Technologies office joining Canada, Denmark, England, Japan, Korea, Lithuania, Sweden, and the United States.
