SCEE Announces New Management Appointments

Fergal Gara appointed VP and Managing Director, SCE UK & Ireland
Philippe Cardon appointed VP and Managing Director SCE France & Switzerland

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) has announced that Fergal Gara has been appointed VP and Managing Director of the SCE UK & Ireland business, starting in October, whilst Philippe Cardon has been appointed VP and Managing Director of SCE France and Switzerland starting with immediate effect.

Bringing considerable experience from the entertainment industry, Fergal Gara joins SCEE from UK Supermarket giant ASDA, where he was responsible for their entertainment categories, including Music, Movies and Games, which he grew substantially. Previously, Gara worked for the BBC and EMI.

With over 20 years experience within the Entertainment industry, Philippe Cardon has been integral in the introduction and establishment of new technologies such as DVD, Blu-Ray and Digital Delivery. Prior to joining SCEE, Cardon was in charge of international markets for Warner Bros Home Video where he also helped launch their video games division.

"Philippe and Fergal bring with them a wealth of broad-based experience across some of the leading names in the Entertainment industry, and with it, knowledge and time spent in our own category," said Jim Ryan, President and CEO, SCEE. "They will be key additions to our business and I look forward to working closely with both of them in driving SCEE's business in the future."

"After almost eight fantastic years at Asda, I am very excited about the opportunity to join the SCEE business," said Fergal Gara. "Sony Computer Entertainment is a true pioneer in video gaming and it is a privilege for me to lead the PlayStation brand into its next chapter of development in the UK and Ireland. I look forward to developing strong and productive relationships with both our retail and publishing partners throughout the industry."

"I am really excited to be joining a company with such a wide range of dynamic business models - hardware, software and the growing digital space," said Philippe Cardon. "Building on the present market strength of SCE France, I look forward to helping the team confront the challenges that our fast changing industry is facing."
