The mobile phones market has been growing healthily since the beginning of the year. This month it posts a +12% growth in units compared to April 2006.
"Out of pack" sales continue to be the growth engine of the market, recording an increase of +26% in units compared to one year ago, while "Carriers packs" sales have been growing more steadily: +5% growth in units compared to April 2006. This month, one mobile phone out of four is a "music phone" (with a MP3 player + an integrated radio tuner + a memory card slot). This represents an impressive +568% increase compared to
last year. At the same time, 25% of mobiles now possess a camera with a megapixel resolution, a flash and a memory card slot (+183% growth compared to last year).
Cameraphones sales have increased by 20% in units compared to last year. Two handsets out of three now have a "megapixel resolution". Furthermore, a new segment, the "5 megapixel resolutions", appears this month.
As for distribution channels, Telecom Specialists are still leading the market with a 16% growth in units compared to last year, at the expense of Technical Superstores.
