Nintendo Co., Ltd. today reported financial results for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2010. It was the third best fiscal year in its history, despite declines in both sales and profits from records set in the preceding fiscal year.
The declines were primarily the results of year-on-year decreases in Wii hardware and Nintendo DS hardware and software sales, a price cut for Wii hardware, and the significant impact of a stronger yen.
Through the fiscal year ending March 31, 2010, worldwide lifetime sales of Wii hardware surpassed 70 million units, and sales of Wii software since launch passed 544 million. Worldwide launch-to-date totals for the Nintendo DS family of portable devices grew to more than 128 million hardware systems, and 718 million games.
For the current fiscal year beginning April 1, 2010, Nintendo projects sales of another 18 million Wii hardware systems and 165 million software units, while Nintendo DS sales are projected at 30 million hardware systems and 150 million pieces of software. Please note that Nintendo DS sales forecast units of 30 million hardware and 150 million software include units for Nintendo 3DS (temp).
